Will You Follow Him?

At Easter, my sister-in-law and my nephew came to church and had lunch with us. They couldn’t stay a real long time, so we made the most of the time we had. I had worked hard the night before, getting the eggs boiled, laying out all the colors to dye the eggs, fixing up his Easter basket, and before church, I was in that kitchen dyeing eggs.

My husband helped me put the Easter eggs out while we fixed our plates for dinner. Once finished, I said, “The Easter Bunny was here”! My nephew ran over to the window to look to see if he could find him. We laughed and told him that he wasn’t here now, but he left him something. All he had to do was follow the eggs the bunny had left and it would lead him straight to his prize.

He grabbed that basket and was ready to go! Thankfully, he paused long enough for a quick picture before darting off the porch after the eggs. He’s only almost 3, so Shaun didn’t really “hide” the eggs. They were all set out in plain sight, everything was set up just right so if he just followed the path he would be victorious.

A little blue egg, then a yellow. A green one, a red one and a purple one. One by one he put them in his basket, always looking to us for help to find the next one. At the end, he found his last egg and behind the tree was his basket! He had found his prize!

“And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it: And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, which took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.” (Joshua 10:31-32)

And the Lord God delivered. Every time Joshua went to battle, the Lord was with him. He had told Joshua to be of good courage and not be afraid and that He would deliver the enemy into their hands. They would be victorious if they just followed the path the Lord had laid out for them. While Joshua fought the battle, it was God who had orchestrated it all.

“And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.” (Joshua 10:42)

It may seem like a crazy notion that the God of the universe, the One who created the solar system and everything in it, fights for you, but He does. In fact, the victory has already been won! And He has laid out an incredibly beautiful path for us to follow to that victory. We simply have to follow Him.

We sing the song “Where He leads me, I will follow”, but do we really mean it? God doesn’t always call us to go or do the easiest thing. But He promises to go with us, preparing the way and leading us to that victory. He is calling today… Will you follow Him?
