Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

It was test day. The dreaded ACT. I was nervous as a cat. The test began at 8, so all night I worried about every detail.

Will I make it on time? What should it wear? What if I get cold? It’s at a different school than mine, what if I don’t know where to go? What if I forget my pencil? What if I get hungry?

A gazillion questions plagued my mind and it was hard to get to sleep.

The next morning, I drove to Batesville High School, parked, and walked in with a few other students. I searched the group to see if I knew anyone, but no one looked familiar.

I checked in, was given my room number and I chose a seat.

This was it. The big moment. The real test of my knowledge. Here, it wasn’t about what anyone else knew, only me. I couldn’t rely on my friends to have the answers. This was my test and mine alone.

“And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.”

Luke 9:18-20 (KJV)

Jesus had posed a question. First about what others said, and then, what His disciples said.

They had spent nearly 3 years with Him, learning, watching, listening, living. They were witnesses to unexplainable miracles and saw His power and authority first hand. And now, it all came down to this. One question – “who do you say that I am?”

It wasn’t about what others said. It wasn’t about someone else’s experience. This was the moment of truth.

“You are The Christ of God.”

By declaring this, they were saying more than just a title. Declaring He was The Christ of God, they were staying His authority, power, divinity, and prophecy fulfilled.

The.

Not one of, not a, not even lowercase… he was THE Christ. The One and Only. This title embodied everything for which Jesus had come. He alone was worthy to save man from our sins. Through Him alone can we approach God the Father. He is our Messiah, our Savior, our Lord.

We are posed with the same question. It doesn’t matter what your friends say, your family’s belief system or what the world says. It only matters what you say about Jesus.

Who do you say Jesus is?

That’s what matters. This is a personal decision you must make. And what you say here, what you believe, determines your life and your eternity.

What will you say?

Who is Jesus?
