We Have a Savior
2543 Views

In a training I took part in, I found myself in the middle of a scenario where I was arrested for accidentally killing someone with my car and their family wanted restitution.

An eye for an eye.

They wanted me dead. Or I would have to pay what that man’s life was worth to the family.

Even though this was just a scenario, I’ve never been so terrified. The thought that staying in the foreign prison was better for me than being hunted down by the family was such a horrific thought.

I don’t know your situation or what you’ve been through. Maybe this is something you’ve actually had experience with so it’s not hard for you to imagine. How awful. Always looking over your shoulder, wondering if you’re being followed. Wondering if someone was waiting for you when you leave your house. I could go through a million examples, and all of them are terrifying.

When I was sitting in that chair, faced with this scenario, I just wanted a savior. I needed help, someone to advocate for me, to plead my case, to save me from the ones who wanted to destroy me.

Luke 22:1-2

“Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.”

The religious leaders wanted to kill Jesus.

He was changing the hearts of the people. His teachings were opening the eyes and the minds of the Jews to a new way of life. But these men didn’t want that. They were losing everything they held dear – power, position, wealth.

Their hearts were filled with hatred towards Jesus so much that they felt killing Jesus was the best option.

And Jesus knew it.

The enemy was after Him. These religious leaders, Judas whom they recruited, they didn’t act alone. They were fueled by hate, greed, pride, and forces unseen. Satan was weaving together what he thought was the perfect plan to destroy God.

So what did Jesus do?

Did He cautiously move from place to place, always looking over His shoulder for His enemy? Did He fear the crowds of people, choosing to hide out instead? Did He search for a savior?

No.

He became one.

To this day, the enemy prowls around seeking to destroy you. But you and I have an advocate. We have someone to plead our case. We have a Savior. He died in our place to take away our sins, so that we can be free. We just have to accept His offer.

Don’t live in fear, live in freedom.
