We Are Not Alone

I’ve always been pretty independent. I started my first job at 16, as soon as I could drive, so I could have spending money for gas and places I wanted to go, things I wanted to do. I applied for college on my own and made the move. I saved and bought my first car. I worked 2-3 jobs at a time while in college, bought my first house on my own, several cars, etc. I never wanted to have to rely on anyone else. I took pride that I could care for myself.

The problem was that my pride actually got in the way of me being humble enough to ask for help. When I finally did, I got the help I needed. Not only from the Lord, but in the blessing of an amazing husband, friend, and partner in life.

Moses was also to the point that he knew he couldn’t handle the people by himself. He cried out to God asking Him to kill him “here and now” because he couldn’t handle their whining, complaining, and demands anymore.

God heard his cries and answered his prayer.

“And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee. And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.” (Numbers 11:16-17)

You don’t have to do this alone.

That’s exactly what God was telling Moses and that’s what He’s telling us today.

Sometimes we feel like we have the weight of the world on our shoulders, but I dare to ask, who put it there? In my quest for independence, I’m the one who piled it on, too proud to ask for help. I’m the world’s worst about saying no, because I am a people pleaser, I want people to know I am fully capable, and because I don’t want to let anyone down.

But there is freedom and peace when we finally lay it at the Lord’s feet and ask for help.

I can’t do this alone God, I need You.

Whatever you are going through today, God wants you to know that you do not have to do it alone. You don’t have to be the one who picks yourself up by your bootstraps and pushes through. Let God carry you! Pray to Him today and ask Him for help. The Holy Spirit was given to us for that very reason! To help us know how to pray, how to understand God’s word, how to live a holy life! But we have to surrender our will, our need for being in control, for God’s will.

Surrender it all today!
