Understanding the Enemy

And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise” But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said. (Luke 18:31-34)

Even though the disciples had been walking with Jesus for three years or so, the disciples still did not understand what Jesus was sharing with them regarding His death and resurrection. God’s Word says, “it was hidden from them and they did not grasp what was said.”

Have you ever felt like God has hidden something from you or holding out on you? Maybe He has not given you answers when you are sure that you would be fine if you just knew the answers?

I suspect that if we are honest, we have all felt that way at times. May I encourage you to not lose sight of God as “Our Father.” A father protects his family from harm. And in the same way parents measure developmental milestones and capabilities, God does the same with us. We are growing from the time we became a spiritual baby at salvation until the present.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13)

So maybe today instead of believing the lies that Satan, the enemy, wants us to believe, replace them with the truth of what it means to be a child of God:

God knows all things, so He knows just when to open your eyes to things around you and when not to.

God knows the enemy uses his lies for the purpose of fear, harm, or discouragement.

God knows your vulnerability and Satan’s evil desires and helps you understand who he is and how he works in your life

God is both Father and Protector, and he makes a way when you cry out to him.
