Under Construction

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things have passed away. Behold, new things have come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (Amplified Bible)

As the ball drops on 2022 do you find yourself “under construction” and seeking a newer and better version to personally upgrade to? I’m not referring to resolutions that fade faster than the infomercial, but rather to the discipline of doing the hard work for a different eternal outcome. Spoiler Alert: people already notice tendencies/patterns in you! Do you grumble like the Children of Israel when you are not in charge? Do you recoil when asked to serve? Do you worship the idols of convenience and comfort? Are you truly honest and objective about the legacy you are choosing to leave? Maybe you shy away from resolutions or fresh starts, but you can’t outrun or hide from your daily choices. Social media might be a good place to start. What if we only posted or promoted others? Would your “page” look different? Reflection is the first step in setting new goals and leaving the old excuses behind.

We all tell on ourselves by the friends that we keep, the manner in which we speak, and the sites we visit. We preach loudly by the jokes we tell, the attire we wear, and the posts we “like”. Our calendars, wallets, and screen time undeniably record our focus and priorities. So with the blank slate of 2023, how will you intentionally work toward resembling your heavenly Father?

New paths always come with expected challenges. The obstacles of excuses and distractions can limit your obedience and can cause you to camp in the land of “Almost”. Be reminded (and encouraged) that Jesus will be glorified in your “becoming” and your resemblance of Him will be your highest calling. Nothing should become more important on your “to be” list of 2023.
