There is Help Coming Soon

We watched the first season of Manifest. It’s an okay show, not a super fan, but it had some interesting points.

If you haven’t seen the show, a plane full of passengers goes through some major turbulence and it looks as if they are going to crash. But soon, everything levels off and the people are able to land safely.

However, when they get off the plane, something strange was happening. No one expected them. People were shocked as they disembarked.

Why?

Five and a half years had passed.

For those on the plane, it was just moments, but for those here on earth, time had passed.

Life had happened.

They had grieved the deaths of the people they loved. In fact many of them were still grieving. So, when these people showed back up, it was almost impossible for those that were here to believe it.

While this is a fictional story, there is one that is true with a similar outcome.

Jesus has died. He was buried in the tomb, the stone rolled in front of the door and guards placed outside. As the women approached the tomb, they saw the stone rolled away and were greeted by angels who told them that Jesus wasn’t there, but that He had risen.

Then, He makes His first appearance.

“Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.” (Mark 16:9-11)

How could they not believe her? She witnessed this first-hand! She saw Him!

Their grief was overwhelming.

They were in shock and disbelief still that Jesus, their Lord and friend, had been crucified and buried. They couldn’t see past the painful moment they were experiencing.

In fact, as Mark continues, Jesus appears to two more believers who told the disciples of their encounter, and the disciples did not believe these men either.

How powerful grief can be!

It can feel like you are drowning in the ocean with nothing to grasp a hold of. There are days when you don’t even feel like trying to keep your head above the water as the anchor pulls you down.

It’s so overwhelming you begin to wonder if it’s worth the fight.

You feel like just surrendering.

Floating away.

Let the waters envelope you and sink you to the bottom.

Even if someone were trying to help you, you may not even realize it.

Someone yells out to you but they seem distant and too far away for you to hear their voice.

And suddenly, when you just don’t think you can hold out any longer, your toe touches something. At first it’s just the tip, but soon, you feel more and your foot finds ground. Your body is give out, your mind is racing, but hope surges through you as you find your footing! Just a little further and both feet are now firmly planted on solid ground.

If you are grieving, I want you to know, there is a place for you to find your footing. Your feet will find that solid ground on which to stand. His name is Jesus. He is our only hope.

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” (Isaiah 43:1-2)

Right now, it may not seem like it. It may feel like it will never end.

But there is help coming soon.

He will help you find your footing. In Him, you will not be overtaken.

Praying for you.
