The Master Returns
4299 Views

Most mornings, this is where you can find our dogs.

Why?

Because their master left and they vigilantly watch and wait for his return.

Of course, they won’t stand there all day. They play, take walks, pester me while I’m on a zoom meeting, and snooze. They have a busy schedule.

But throughout the day, you’ll catch them just sitting and watching out the door, waiting for him to come back.

Luke 12:35-40 – NIV

“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

Jesus is teaching about being ready for His return. The disciples listened, but remember, they were still confused about what Jesus meant about going away from them. They still didn’t understand about His death, resurrection and return yet.

But we do.

We have everything we need right in front of us in God’s Word. Throughout the Bible, we are shown prophecies fulfilled, miracles that prove who Jesus said He was and the mystery unfolds before our very eyes – we read and understand the truth about Jesus, the Messiah, God in the flesh, who gave His life for us and is coming again – soon.

Our Master has gone, but we know He is going to return. We don’t just sit and watch every minute. Instead, we are to serve by sharing the gospel, teaching others through discipleship, and caring for those in need. We keep the lights burning- we grow in knowledge and wisdom – and point others to Him. At any time, Jesus could return.

Do you look forward to His return or does it frighten you?

How can you be ready? Know Jesus as your Savior and serve Him with a heart of thanks.

Are you dressed and ready to serve? Is your light still burning? Or will He find you asleep, unaware, off-guard?

People get ready. Jesus is coming soon.

The Master Returns.
