The night sky holds millions of colors, many of which our eyes simply cannot see. Yet modern camera sensors can capture those hidden colors and reveal a beauty that is truly breathtaking.

This image was made along the banks of the Buffalo National River, beneath what may be the darkest skies in Arkansas. It is a stacked, tracked, and blended image, combining the stars with a blue-hour foreground.

The photograph was taken just as the Milky Way was beginning to rise. Sunset had occurred nearly one hour earlier, leaving only the faintest remnants of reflected light to illuminate the river.

And as beautiful as the scene was, I cannot look at it without thinking about the One who created it.

“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place…” — Psalm 8:3
