“Who gets to decide what’s right and what’s wrong?”
In my teen years, I made this statement more than once. It was usually accompanied by arguments associated with my actions.
Who’s to say this isn’t right for me? Who’s to say it’s wrong? As I continued down this questionable path, I was convinced that truth was relative. It was determined by one’s own thoughts and convictions.
That was what I believed. It’s what I wanted to believe. But friends, let me be honest with you. If you hear nothing else that I say, hear this…
I was wrong. Truth is truth. And it is determined by its source, the one true and living God.
In Him, we can know what is right and what is wrong. In Him, we can know truth. Without Him, we are wandering around, muddying the waters, and our “truth” is upside down.
“And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in. Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.” (Matthew 27:6-10)
These so-called religious men had no issues with paying the money to see Jesus captured and sentenced to death. But their pious attitudes wouldn’t allow them to even consider taking the money back. It was bloodstained. The law wouldn’t allow it to be accepted.
These men had their right and wrong so messed up!
How? How could they not see how wrong they were? That’s exactly what the enemy does. Given even an inch, he takes a mile, distorting the truth so much that eventually what you thought was up is really down.
Don’t believe me?
Just turn on the news for 5 minutes.
Babies are being slaughtered by the thousands in the mother’s womb and we praise them for it.
What God calls an abomination is paraded through the streets and celebrated on every television show and commercial, and those that oppose are called bigots.
Groups are allowed to riot and destroy cities, businesses, families and police forces, and their bank accounts continue to grow with support.
And the headlines continue…
Right and wrong has been flipped upside down. Society has lost its mind. Why? How?
Because they have gotten away from the TRUTH, the WORD OF GOD.
We are a part of a culture that believes whatever it “feels” is right. We do what we “think” is best for us, not worrying or concerning ourselves with what the consequences or ramifications might be.
That’s exactly what the Israelites were doing during the time of Judges.
Every man did that which was right in his own eyes, which was wrong in God’s eyes.
