Oh, How the Tongue Destroys
2290 Views

The other day I heard an anointed teacher say that we are currently living in the existence that we created through the last 5 years of the words we speak and the thoughts we think.

I know. That’s a mouthful.

Let me break it down.

If you have spent the last years of your life speaking negatively, agreeing with lies from the enemy, declaring over yourself things that are not true according to the Bible, it is no wonder your life is full of hopelessness, negativity and just plain miserable.

Words Are Powerful.

Your words have the power to shape your life. You believe what you hear yourself say most. You can be enslaved or set free by the direction of your tongue.

It says in Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

The words you speak and the attitude you speak them from matters. It can make the difference between an abundant life and a negative one.

God takes words very seriously. So much so that he spoke the world into existence. It says in Psalm 33:9, “For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.”

The Lord has been working in me massively in this area over the last year and the change that has taken place is nothing short of miraculous.

I started to pay attention to the words that came out of my mouth.

I started observing myself.

I realized what a total disaster my words were as soon as I became aware of my words and thoughts,

And as a result, my life was falling apart.

I was a miserable human being.

I habitually spoke lies and negativity over myself until I started to believe lies over the truth of God. No wonder my life was a mess!

In James 3:3-6 it says, “When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.”

Your Words Are a Weapon. Make a Change.

After realizing that my thoughts and words were leading me into destruction, I had to take an aggressive stance against the enemy’s plans for my life and counter every single attack on my mind with the Word of God. I learned that renewing my mind was a discipline and one my very life depended on. I couldn’t live this way anymore. I started catching negative lies coming out of my mouth and immediately changing the statement to be a truth from the Word of God.

For example, rather than saying. “I’ve been broke for so long, I can never afford to pay rent on time,” I would shift that and say, “That’s a lie, I have been given all I need pertaining to life and godliness and that includes a roof over my head.

If rent is what I need for life, then my God has already supplied it and I trust in Him. (2 Peter 1:3). Immediately it creates a shift and the more you take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) the more victory you see. I am living proof.

When you speak out of your mouth the truth, the negative habits of lies and deceit break. When you agree with what God says about you over what Satan says about you, you are immovable and misery will have to go find another door to knock on.

Because in Christ, you are free.
