I grabbed a hold of my husband’s arm while we were driving, trying to get his attention.

“LOOK!”

We had just gone over a little bridge and up the creek, was a deer standing. It was like something out of a fairy tale.

I wanted him to see it, too!

“LOOK!”

But it was too late. He missed it. I wanted to turn around, but the deer was gone.

Has this ever happened to you? Something amazing is happening right before your eyes and you want someone to look. You say,

“Are you seeing what I’m seeing?”

“Wow!”

“You’ve got to see this!”

“It’s the most beautiful, most incredible, best thing I have ever seen!”

“Look!”

This morning, I’m telling you to LOOK. Don’t miss this.

John 1:29

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Behold.

Look! John urged people to see Jesus. Not for the man that He was, but for the purpose for which He came.

The Lamb of God.

The Jews knew about lambs. It was part of their every day life. Lambs were vital to their survival and worship. Wool, milk, meat, trading, and sacrifices.

Every day, morning and evening, a lamb had to be sacrificed according to the law to cleanse the people of their sins. The blood of the innocent, spotless lamb had to be poured out in order for God to forgive the sins of the people.

It began in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned against God. He sacrificed a lamb to provide coverings for them, blood poured out for the covering of their sin.

Throughout the Old Testament, we read of the sacrifices that took place. And in Isaiah 53:7 we see the promise of a lamb, the Messiah, that would take on the sins of all mankind, and die for us.

“He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”

So, as John says to the people, BEHOLD! He urges them to see Jesus. To see that He is the spotless, innocent lamb that will take away our sins.

The sacrifice for us. The One that will endure death in our place.

Do you see that? Do you see Him?

I tell you to look today, because tomorrow may be too late. You do not want to miss this.

Jesus is our only hope.

He is the way. He is what your heart longs for, what your mind and soul are searching for, and who you desperately need to fill that hole within you. He is God alone. There are no other gods. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the only way to eternal life in Heaven with God. He is the One who paid for your sin debt. He is your redeemer, your freedom, your Savior.

But do you see Him?

Open the eyes of the people Lord so they can behold your greatness. Let them see you with understanding.

Behold the Lamb of God who taketh away the sin of the world.
