We stepped out onto the lookout platform and caught a glimpse of moving water. But we wanted to see more.
To the right was a path that looked like a few people had traveled it before. But as we started down it, we could see why there had only been a few.
The drop-off on the left side was steep. The path was narrow. And we had to climb down rocks to get below the treetops for a better view.
We stepped out onto a rock, and there, through an opening in the foliage, was the most breathtaking scene.
It was a beautiful blue spring, boiling up out of the creek. It was incredible to watch as it continuously poured out more and more water. And what I loved just as much was watching the water flow downstream.
It was unhindered.
There was no dam, no rocks keeping it from moving forward. It had the freedom to flow, to spread, to move.
And everything around it was thriving.
The plants were a lush green. Even the rocks were covered with a layer of beautiful green moss.
It was beautiful, refreshing, and amazing to watch it flow.
What if the words we share could have the same effect?
2 Thessalonians 3:1
“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:”
I love the way the King James Version words this verse. Immediately, I was intrigued by the choice of words.
Free course.
It means to spread rapidly or move swiftly.
Paul is reminding the believers in Thessalonica how they should live in light of Christ’s return. They were facing persecution for their faith in Jesus as Lord, and they would continue to face it, just as Paul had.
But would that stop them from sharing this beautiful truth? Would it stop the message that Jesus is the Savior?
Paul said to pray that the Gospel would have free course and that God would be glorified.
And immediately, I thought of that beautiful spring of water boiling up from the earth.
Refreshing.
Life-giving and sustaining.
Incomparable.
And it flowed freely through the forest.
Does it flow freely from us?
We are the ones called to carry the message. God has placed us in specific places and among certain people He wants us to share the Gospel with.
Will we?
Does the message of forgiveness and salvation in Jesus boil up and out of you? Does it flow freely to others so that they, too, can know the love of Christ?
Today, don’t hinder the Gospel. Let it flow freely. Let it have free course.
And may God be glorified!
