It’s Not Over

The crowd was on their feet, screaming, chanting, booing. All eyes were on the main event, but it wasn’t going quite like they thought it would.

There he was. Laid out in a choke hold. His opponents arms twisted around his neck. And his head hung without response.

1…
2…

It looked like all was lost.

3…
4…

His opponent held tight. He knew he was about to win.

5…
6…

But wait. Was that movement? Did we just see something happen?

7…
8…

The hand of the champ began to raise. Slowly, dramatically. It seemed to be strengthening with each moment, shaking from the power it was about to unleash.

9…

And then, his eyes open.

And you knew, it’s showtime.

The champ, Hulk Hogan, was back!

The crowd went wild!

Those were the good ‘ol days, weren’t they? I grew up watching Memphis wrestling with Jerry Lawler with my dad. When I was in the 7th grade, I begged my dad to go see a wrestling match in Little Rock. And the big events, well, we watched those in Math class (on special occasions, of course).

Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, the Ultimate Warrior, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, Jake the Snake, the Undertaker… man, those were the days.

But it was that moment in the ring when you thought the end was coming for the champ. It looked like all hope was lost. But you knew, you just knew that hand was going to come up and build enough strength to destroy the opponent.

Luke 22:63-65

“And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.”

How could this happen? Jesus was supposed to come save God’s people, the Jews, from their oppressors. But here, Jesus, the long awaited Messiah, the Lord, has been arrested. He is blind-folded and the men mock Him, telling Him if He’s so great, to guess who just slapped Him.

It looks as if hope is lost.

And as we continue through the book of Luke, it will get worse for Jesus. It will seem like the enemy has won.

But we know, there’s that moment when we will see more than just a hand raise. We will see Him raised from the dead, conquering the enemy, and reigning on high.

It’s not over. Even today, when it feels like the enemy has you in a chokehold.

It’s not over.

If you’ve put your faith and trust in Jesus, you’ll have victory over the enemy!

Do you know Him? He offers you eternal life, victory over death and sin, and all you have to do is accept.

As Hulk would say, “Whatcha gonna do, brother?”
