Irreconcilable Differences? Not for God
59 Views

“Irretrievable breakdown that cannot be repaired” — that’s how a judge would describe irreconcilable differences.

What once was whole, filled with love, companionship, and devotion is now broken, divided, separated, and without hope of repair.

In college, I was a sociology minor and took a course called Marriage and Family. I thought it would be about how to have a healthy marriage, learn how to communicate better, and develop good problem-solving skills. But the course focused on divorce. Everything was a statistic, one failure after another.

I even asked my professor if we were ever going to talk about the good things about marriage, the marriages that succeed, and he just stared at me like I was an alien.

According to the world, sixty percent of marriages, once love-filled unions, are deemed irreconcilable.

But to the ultimate Judge, what’s impossible here on earth is made possible through His power.

Colossians 1:21–22 says:

“And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.”

I want you to fully grasp this truth. It’s not just something to read; it’s a truth you can grab and hold tightly.

You, me, and the people of this world were separated from God because of our sin. We could do nothing to repair that broken relationship. There was no longer harmony or unity because we had broken the covenant.

But God doesn’t just leave us there with “irreconcilable differences.” He restores what is broken. We are His, and He isn’t letting us go that easily.

God reconciled us to Himself. He was willing to do whatever was necessary to bring back harmony between us.

He gave us Jesus.

Jesus came and died so that we could be forgiven of our sins.

Not only can we be reconciled to God, but we are also brought before Him holy and blameless. Our sins are remembered no more. God doesn’t bring them up as reminders of who we once were. He has made us clean, whole, and pure.

Maybe that truth doesn’t bring you to your knees the way it does me. For some, you might feel like you weren’t really that bad before you met Jesus, especially compared to people like me — those of us who were covered in the filthy rags of lies, deceit, and sinfulness.

Our sins are not measured against one another, but against the perfect, spotless Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.

And before Him, no matter how good we think we look, every thought, action, and word we speak is revealed.

And the most beautiful part is that no matter who we are, Christ offers this beautiful gift of reconciliation to us. This union can be repaired, and it will last for eternity.

One hundred percent of reconciled relationships between God and man will last forever. And that’s a statistic worth sharing.

Do you want that? The promise and assurance of God’s grace and forgiveness is eternal. He is more powerful than your sin, doubt, and fear. Once He saves you, you are sealed by His Holy Spirit. Nothing can take you from His hand.
