Here’s Your Sign

Remember this comedy routine from Bill Engvall? We all think it, he just said it. There’s times when something is so completely obvious that you just stare at the people in disbelief in their response.

The Jews were asking for a sign as they demanded Jesus to confess, had Him arrested, beaten and crucified. And as He hung on the cross dying, they got their sign.

Luke 23:37-38

“And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

Here’s your sign.

They were too blind to see the truth of their own words. Jesus really was the King of the Jews. In fact, He was and is the King of Kings. They mocked and ridiculed Him, teasing that His kingdom was clearly taken from Him and His reign ending.

But it was just beginning.

With His death, Jesus defeated our sins. He conquered the enemy, crushing his head with His heel. Just as the scriptures said He would.

Many Jews today are still waiting for the Messiah. Even though He fulfilled the scriptures, they missed all the signs pointing to Him as the Christ.

What sign do you need to recognize Jesus as the one true God? What will it take for our eyes to be opened to the truth of who He is and surrender to His authority?
