Don’t Be Blind to the Truth

I was watching some epic gym fails yesterday. You know, the ones where someone is trying to look really cool, but they end up looking really dumb?

Yeah, those.

A woman took a weighted ball and her plan was to bounce it hard and catch it. Easy enough, right? Most of the time, that would have worked. But apparently, she grabbed the wrong ball. Staring down, she forcefully bounced it and bam! It backfired! It bounced up with as much force as she had given it and smacked her right in the chin.

Video after video showed men and women thinking they had the upper hand in their plan of domination only to have it come back at them in full force, leaving them looking like a fool.

“And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.”

Luke 11:14-20

The Pharisees were the religious leaders of the day. Their entire existence was to uphold the law, or at least make sure others were. Time and time again they tried to trap Jesus with some question or riddle they thought would surely expose Him as a fraud or blasphemer.

With their chests puffed out, they thought to accuse Him of being the devil himself since the demons listened to Him as He cast them out.

But Jesus knew their thoughts.

And their little plan backfired.

If He was the devil for casting out demons, and yet they also cast out demons, what did that make them?

Exactly.

These men were so jealous of Jesus and His power that they were blind to the truth of who He really was.

What about us? Has the world blinded us to where we can’t see His power at work and believe it’s Jesus? Open your eyes to what God has before you.

The heavens declare His glory! Everywhere you look, there is proof that someone marvelous had to create all of this. And as we open the Bible, it begins with “in the beginning, God”. So automatically, it is stated as a fact that the something or someone that has always existed and created all of this, is God.

And He created you. He designed you to be exactly as He planned. And He wants to know you. Not in a “hey, let’s be Facebook friends” way. But in a real relationship. One where you trust Him, confide in Him, communicate regularly with Him and love Him. Do you have that?

The Pharisees were too stuck on the law and themselves to truly see Jesus. Will you?
