John 1:45–46
“Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’ Nathanael said to him, ‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come and see.’”
Can anything good come out of Nazareth?
Rich equals smart. Poor equals lazy. Messed up equals unredeemable. We label others, and then we label ourselves. **Labels define people. Then they divide people.** That’s the way of the world.
But Jesus flipped the script.
**Jesus refuses to fit into our sides.**
• Religious snobbery will not be tolerated. This offends one side.
• Sexual immorality will not be condoned. This offends another side.
So, who is good?
**The answer is shocking: no one is good.** Not you. Most of all, not me.
The question is not who is good. The question is who is redeemable.
And the answer is everyone.
Jesus sees you differently. **His love is not blind, yet His justice is not without mercy.** **“Come and see,” He says. Then, “Follow Me.”**
Are you good? No.
But are you redeemable?
Jesus says yes.
Can anything good come out of Nazareth?
Absolutely!
