A Whole New World of Possibilities
4743 Views

It was drilled into us as children. Every parent claimed it and taught it. It became a part of who we were. There was no questioning it, you just knew it to be truth.

You have to wait 30 minutes after eating before swimming or you’ll cramp up and die.

Summertime was full of fun days in the sun and hanging out at the pool. And there was always delicious food! Watermelon, chips and dip, hotdogs, burgers, you name it! But you waited as long as you could to eat because you knew you’d have to take a break from swimming for at least 30 minutes afterward.

Ugh.

You may have complained. You may have tried to fight it. But in the end, you lost and you sat with your towel draped around you waiting to get back in. Especially because there was always that “one kid” that it really happened to, although no one really knew that kids name or when it happened. So, you waited.

And then, you got older, and the truth was revealed.

You could, in fact, swim right after eating, without getting cramps and dying.

WHAT?!

And now, it was like a whole new world of possibilities was open to you because of this truth!

“And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.” (Mark 15:37-39)

The Roman Centurion. This was a soldier in the Roman army who was stationed as a guard at the cross. Remember, the Romans governed the Jewish people. The Jewish religious leaders had demanded the Romans to crucify Jesus. Pilate didn’t want any trouble or uprising from the people, so he stationed guards at the cross and the tomb where Jesus would be buried.

Romans, at that time, worshipped many false gods such as Jupiter and Mars and Juno. They also worshipped spirits. This centurion had no doubt been taught and practiced this pagan worship. He was brought up to believe this as fact.

And then the moment came where his eyes were open to the truth.

He saw Jesus give up the ghost after crying out to the Father.

In that moment, the Roman Centurion declared with His mouth that Jesus was the Son of God!

This changed everything he had ever known! If Jesus was the Son of God, then the things He said were true. The people who had crucified Him were wrong. And what he knew and believed was false!

Can you imagine how earth-shaking this would have been?

Maybe you’ve even had a moment similar. Or you might be reading this and you’re just now learning the truth about Jesus Christ.

He was right. Jesus is truly the Son of God. Every miracle He preformed really happened. Every story He told had a purpose to teach us. Every prophecy in the Bible about Him up until that point, He fulfilled. And there is still more to come that He will bring to pass!

But the real question is, what will you do with this truth?

Will you examine the scriptures for more about who He was?

He commanded those that believed to follow Him. Will you take that step and learn what that means and commit to being His follower?

Will you share it with others so they can know the truth?

A whole new world of possibilities is open to you because of this truth! Don’t waste it!
