I have a guest speaker that comes to several events I coordinate to talk about his job as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
One of the things he pointed out is the ability to breathe. We are all able to do it, it’s how we were created. But then he goes on to explain how even if we tried to stop breathing, we were created with a failsafe, so to speak, that kicks in and tells our brain to get those lungs breathing again.
And, he attributes this all to our Creator and Lord.
We had one of those events today, and as usual, he was on my list to speak. I’m thankful he is passionate about his career but also that he takes the time to share on the importance of his faith.
Healthcare is a unique industry where people come to you searching for answers and hope. People are scared and in desperate need of help.
My own father struggled with pulmonary (lung) issues. Not only did he have heart disease, but after years of smoking, he developed Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
I still remember one Sunday night when I walked into church, I saw several people gathered around my dad. He was sitting in one of the chairs in the foyer and he said he was fine, he just needed to catch his breath.
This was happening more and more often. He was on oxygen, but he still couldn’t “catch his breath.” Then, he would panic, and of course it only got worse.
It was horrible to watch him as he struggled to breathe.
When he passed away in November of 2010, I remember realizing he was breathing in fresh air with perfect lungs in heaven. God’s beautiful grace saved him and healed him in the best way – no more pain and no more gasping for air.
Genesis 2:7 says, “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. ‘And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.’”
I am awestruck by this. Worship the only God who gave us life.
Breathe in His Word – the sweet aroma of His love and mercy.
The Scriptures are deep breaths that satisfy our lungs and clear our minds.
God you are incredible.
Take a deep breath today, it is a gift from our Heavenly Father!
