Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him. (Colossians 2:6)
Paul has given us great instructions on how to come to Christ and receive Him as Lord and Savior. Now, he turns to how we must live in every moment of the common day. And here are the simple, profound instructions: walk in Him the same way you received Him.
- You received Christ in humility, recognizing your need and acknowledging your sin. Keep walking in that same humility.
- You received Him as LORD, willing to surrender to Him as your Master. Continue to order your life under His Lordship.
- You received Him in faith, knowing there was no one else who could save you, and trusting Him—and Him alone—to deliver you. Continue walking in utter dependence on Him.
- You received Him in humble simplicity—just coming to Him—not “figuring it all out” (which you can’t). Keep coming with childlike faith.
- You received Him willingly, gladly choosing Him above all else, and were willing to do whatever He asked. Don’t let stubborn pride creep in and ruin your simple obedience.
- You received Him as the Lord—your Lord—knowing there was no one else in heaven or on earth before whom you should bow. Yet, you gladly knelt before Him and embraced Him as Lord. Keep bowing before Him.
You must not complicate this. It is as simple as it seems, although there are many adversaries and many who would try to confuse you (which is what Paul is addressing in this chapter to the Colossians).
As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.
