Your Offering At Work

Have I talked about the potholes on our road?

Stop me if you’ve heard this one…

Okay, it’s not the start of an awful joke. Or it may be since it seems our tax dollars should be paying for it.

Anytime someone comes to our house, we include, “Hope you drive a big 4-wheel drive truck”. Someone even put up this sign where the pavement ends and the “ride” begins.

Okay, they didn’t, really; that’s just a joke.

It makes us wonder where our money is going. We can’t see progress or even maintenance. I promise this is not a county road rant – this story has a purpose. Stay with me.

Don’t you want to see where your money is going?

Acts 20:1-6
“When the uproar had ended, Paul sent for the disciples and, after encouraging them, said goodbye and set out for Macedonia.
2 He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece,
3, where he stayed three months. Because some Jews had plotted against him just as he was about to sail for Syria, he decided to go back through Macedonia.
4 He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy also, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.
5 These men went on ahead and waited for us at Troas.
6 But we sailed from Philippi after the Festival of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days.”

Why were these men traveling with Paul to Jerusalem? These were men from the churches he had started in Asia. Jerusalem was where the church was, where the church began, and where these churches had received their start. Everything flowed from this central church.

These men were bringing an offering to the church. In their day, social media didn’t exist. They couldn’t see their money at work in the service of the church. Paul was bringing them with him to build unity and trust so they could see the ministry at work. In return, they would share with their own churches the way God was using their offering.

To meet the needs of the people. To share the gospel. To make disciples. To plant churches.

In today’s world, you don’t have to go with me on a trip to see how your giving is used. That’s one of the great things about the internet. All month on Lifeword Today, we’ve been introducing you to our partners around the world who are creating content, sharing the gospel, making disciples, and planting churches. Pictures, videos, and testimonials share how every dollar is spent. You can go to Lifeword.org and see every show that’s produced and how the gospel message is shared. You can go to follow.lifeword.org and see our new digital discipleship portal at work. We are a media ministry focused on one thing – we tell the story—the story of Jesus. We want to be a part of God’s mission – the Great Commission. Don’t you?
