With a love for writing and mystery, Jessica Fletcher made an excellent character for a TV show. “Murder She Wrote” was a show popular in the 80s and 90s featuring Angela Lansbury. Because she was a writer, she had a keen eye for details. When a murder would occur, she would always catch something the police or investigators would miss. A piece of glass on the floor, a missing handbag on the desk, a tear in a fur coat, or a subtle giveaway as a person spoke with her that betrayed their alibi.
She had a gift for writing that resulted in the ability to piece it all together and figure out who the murderer was before anyone else.
Acts 18:27-28
“When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.
28 For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.”
A man with a gift.
Aquila and Priscilla met Apollos in Ephesus, where he was teaching about the coming Messiah. They shared with him that there was more to the story and that Jesus Christ, who was crucified, was the very Messiah he spoke about.
Now armed with the whole truth, Apollos was ready to share with the people. He desired to go to Achaia, which included the cities of Corinth and Athens, cities that thrived on philosophical debates.
And when he arrived, it was evident this man had a gift.
He was very talented in speaking and debating and used that gift to share how Jesus was the Messiah.
Have you ever met those people? They seem to have a gift for something, and you stand amazed at how they do it. Did you know that God has gifted you as well? He’s given you this gift and passion for a reason.
The question is, will you use it for His glory or your own?
