You Will Reap What You Sow—In This Life and the Next
20 Views

Two women, same job, different lives. One lived modestly, choosing to put money into a savings account that drew interest each month, while the other lived a more extravagant lifestyle, with little to no money left to put into savings.

After five years, there wasn’t much difference in their accounts. But after ten, fifteen, and twenty years, there was definitely something to be said about the one who had saved.

She had a nice nest egg to retire on, while the other had a storage building full of used, broken-down, and costly possessions.

Both had attended the same financial seminar when they first began working. Both had heard the wise words, “You’ll reap what you sow.” Both had made their choices.

Galatians 6:7–8
“Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.”

While this certainly can apply to savings and financial security, it also applies to both the physical and spiritual aspects of life.

How many of us made a resolution at the beginning of the year to grow closer to the Lord? How’s that going? Would we say we’ve been successful? What kinds of things have we done to bring us to the place where we are now?

It takes commitment, doesn’t it? Spending time daily in the Word. Focusing on prayer. Being intentional in serving and responding the way Christ did. Getting involved in church—maybe a new class or discipleship group. Time spent investing in these areas will produce a bountiful harvest.

But if we made that resolution and then continued to do our own thing, we wouldn’t be any closer than before. Perhaps, like me, we’d even feel further away.

We reap what we sow.

And not just in this life, but for eternity.

Today, we have the choice of following self and the world or following Jesus. We can choose to believe in Jesus and put our faith and trust in Him, letting Him lead us. Or we can choose to remain on our own path—ignoring His truth, denying His love and forgiveness, and living for our own pleasures.

Choosing Jesus means eternal life in Heaven. Choosing anything other than Jesus means eternal death in Hell.

We will reap what we sow.

Today, I’m choosing Jesus. Will you?

Let me share more with you about the Jesus who loves you and offers forgiveness. No matter how far you’ve gone, what you’ve done, or who you’ve been, Jesus is right here—waiting and ready to talk.
