Winters of Life
4664 Views

New life springs up. Birds dancing through the sky, singing a song of delight. Bright shades of green, yellow, and pink bloom almost overnight. A sweet aroma fills the crisp morning air.

Springtime is my favorite season!

Where the green will blanket the landscape, is grey and brown right now. In the winter, everything seems dead.

Lifeless.

Broken.

Failing.

But when Spring comes around, you realize, it wasn’t dead, only dormant. A season to rest and prepare for new growth.

Because every Spring, it seems that tree is a bit taller and that bush a bit bigger. Stronger.

Luke 17:5:6

“And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.”

A mustard seed is small. But it’s alive and ready to grow. It may seem like nothing when looking at it, but there is something there for sure.

The disciples wanted more faith. A faith like Jesus. They said, ”make our faith better”. They felt like they were failing.

What they wanted was a constant Spring. A time of continued blossoms. Beauty everywhere.

They didn’t want the winter.

Jesus used the example of the mustard seed to remind them that even when things don’t seem to be exactly as you planned, even when life isn’t beautiful, there is growth.

Even in the winter.

Their faith wasn’t dead, it was going through a time of growth.

How about you?

What are these tough seasons in life teaching you? How have they helped you to grow? Have you felt your faith struggling or failing? Maybe this season is preparing you, making you stronger.

Your faith doesn’t have to be huge to be effective. Allow God to use the winters of this life to grow you.

And rejoice when Spring comes.
