Who Is Jesus To You?

Debates, arguments, wars, families torn apart, ridicule, persecution, and death. All of these are the result of one thing – the question, “Who is Jesus?”

Some say He was a good, moral teacher. Others describe Him as the son of a carpenter who lived an honest life. While others claim He was a blasphemer of the name of God by declaring that He was the Son of God and God Himself. Yet, still there are many who believe He was God in the flesh and was the promised Messiah the prophets had foretold.

As we begin the book of John in our study, we first look at the author and purpose of this book of the Bible.

John was one of Jesus’ disciples. He was the brother to James, the son of Zebedee, called one of the Sons of Thunder. He’s not to be confused with John the Baptist, they were two different men, but had similar purposes.

So, what is the purpose? Why did John write this book of the Bible?

Let’s look at a few interesting facts about the book of John.

– It’s one of the most quoted books of the Bible.
– It’s one of the first books new believers or seekers are encouraged to read.
– It is unlike the other gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) in its unique contents.

Why?

Because John wrote this book to prove who Jesus is.

Throughout the coming weeks, we will dive into this interesting, eye-opening, heart-changing book as we discover the titles Jesus has been given – the Word, the only begotten Son, Lamb of God, Son of God, true Bread, Life, Resurrection, Vine.

Ask yourself today, who is Jesus? Write it down. You might be surprised at what you uncover in the scriptures we will read. Or perhaps your understanding will be reaffirmed of the truth about the One who claimed, “I Am” and turned the world upside down.

There is nothing more important than your answer to the question, “who is Jesus?”. It determines your life here and for eternity. Tomorrow, we will dive in and discover the truth about who He is from John.
