Where Does Our Worth Come From?
4163 Views

There’s not much in this world that can make you feel unworthy as when the girls go through your stuff at Plato’s closet.

“We’ll keep 10 items out of your 100 and we will give you $2.”

Or Rick from Pawn Stars as he stares at your most prized collection you are certain is worth millions.

“Best I can do is $75.”

Where does our worth come from? The world wants us to believe it’s in our achievements and performance, the way we look, and the amount of money or things we have.

But none of that is accurate.

Luke 12:6-7

“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

A farthing is equal to a penny. So, Jesus is saying five birds are sold for two pennies. That’s not worth much is it? And even those do not go unnoticed by God. Something of such little value still has the attention of the Heavenly Father.

Jesus shares that God knows even the smallest details about you. He used hair as an example. He says God knows the number of hairs on your head. What man could possibly know that? (Don’t say a bald one…you’re missing the point.)

The bottom line – you are worthy to God in a way you can’t even imagine. What would drive the Creator of the Universe, the One who has always existed and created time, and the One who breathes life into existence, to come down from His throne and be born as a man, to be forsaken by friends and family, beaten and hung on a cross to die?

You.

Why? Why would God do that?

Because He loves you. He created you. And you are worthy to Him.

By the world’s standards, you may feel like you have no value. But to God, you are priceless.

You can’t do even one thing to earn His love. You already have it. All you have to do is accept it.

When I realized His love for me, all I wanted to do was give Him everything I have. But it seems meaningless compared to what He gave me. So, I give the only thing I can – a life surrendered to Him.

What is your response to God’s unfailing love over you and realizing that you are far more precious than rubies in His eyes?
