“A generous man will prosper, he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” – Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)
Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” We are all givers. We simply need to accept the behaviors we have chosen (positive and/or negative). If you dare, ask those who know you best to describe your giving. Would they testify to your loving, giving spirit, your selective, convenient giving, or your self-centered, “taker” status? Giving from a heart like His involves so much more than finances. The best gifts might resemble time with a senior fighting loneliness, or the gift of vision and encouragement to someone battling one of life’s curve balls. The gift of confidence offered to a young person threatened by screen time bullying, or the gift of hope and encouragement to one with limited resources. Perhaps you need to consider giving the gift of forgiveness to those who may never apologize, or the gift of a good example to those in your circle of influence. God has “gifted” you with blessings beyond measure, so there’s never a need to regift anything, unless it’s the fruitcake that Aunt Louise hands out every Christmas.
As you prepare to give, be reminded that all gifts need to be wrapped in unconditional love, just as our Heavenly Father has modeled for us.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” – John 3:16. What will you be guilty of giving to be more like Him?
