What is it that you’re searching for?
Isn’t that really why we do the things we do? Because there is something we desperately want for our lives, right?
We focus through school, our sights set on a career – because we believe it will fulfill what we’re looking for.
We find someone we love, we want to share our life with them because that will give us what we are looking for.
What we buy, how we spend our time, the books we read, the movies we watch, it’s all to try to fill something within us.
We live our lives searching for a place to belong. We want unity and peace. We seek freedom and healing. And we desperately want joy.
So, how do we find it?
Acts 8:5-9
“Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city.”
The Samaritans. A group of people who were ostracized. This region was the capital of the Northern Kingdom when Assyria invaded in 722 BC. They took many captives but left the poorest people there. Foreigners began to settle in the area and they intermarried with the remaining Jews. Because they were a mixed race, many of the Jews looked down on them. This group of people felt like they didn’t belong anywhere.
But then Philip, a man filled with the Holy Spirit, came and offered them something remarkable. He brought them the Word of God, preaching the message of Jesus. And when they heard these things and saw the miracles which he performed, everything changed.
They found what they had been searching for.
A place to belong.
Unity.
Peace.
Freedom.
Healing.
And Joy.
And life would never be the same.
What about you? Are you searching? Do you desperately want peace and unity? A place to belong? A true family? Freedom, healing and unspeakable joy?
You can find it just like the Samaritans did.
It’s here, in the Word of God. It’s found in Jesus.
Today, you can know true peace and joy by coming to know Jesus. He offers us forgiveness of our sins and welcomes us to His family. Will you accept it?
