We’ve Come A Long Way
5549 Views

Have you ever just stopped and thought, how did I get here? I literally do that sometimes when I’m driving… shhh don’t tell. But in life, too. Right now, I can sit here in this beautiful cabin we’ve built, in the middle of nowhere with an amazing view, with the family that I have married into, and think about the life we have, the business we have built, and the love we share.

We’ve come a long way.

Sometimes we get so focused on the next big thing that we forget to stop and reflect on where we are and how we got here. Hard work through literal blood, sweat and tears led to the finishing of this house and land. But even before that, the trials and mountains we had to climb, the low valleys we endured, all brought us to this place right here.

It makes me stop and my heart is overwhelmed with thankfulness. I don’t deserve any of it, but I’m thankful that God would use even my messes to bring about such a blessing.

In Numbers 33, we see history unfold before our eyes. The Israelites are soon to conquer the promised land, but Moses stops and reflects on the journey it has taken to get them there.

From Egypt to Mt. Sinai, to the wilderness, to the battles across the land and even the death of those that defied God. They traveled from mountains to valleys and were now waiting by the river.

“And they departed from the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho. And they pitched by Jordan, from Bethjesimoth even unto Abelshittim in the plains of Moab.” (Numbers 33:48-49)

Each place mentioned throughout the book was a reminder of what God had brought them through. The salvation of their firstborn in Egypt, His escape through the Red Sea, His provision of manna from Heaven, His giving of the law at the Mountain, His protection during battle, His correction when they sinned, and His continued promise for a land for His people.

What a journey it’s been this far.

While right now is a tough place to be sometimes, look back at the journey that’s brought you to this very moment. God has been with you and provided for you every step of the way. Through the heartbreaking moments of loss and rejection, through the joyous moments of new life and redemption, and through struggles and fears, God has been there the whole time.

And He’s with you now.

Emmanuel. God with us.

Do not fear my friends. The unknown ahead can seem scary and insurmountable at times, but look at the journey you’ve already been on. Let that be a reminder of who is walking right beside you on this path, a path to victory!
