No one enjoys losing. Just ask any of the talented and skilled athletes recently competing for the ultimate prize of March Madness in college basketball. No matter who your jersey promotes, they all have one thing in common…avoiding defeat! Christians don’t have that worry. Are there sidelines or ditches we can steer into or out of bounds? Certainly! Are there seasons when emotions seem to turn our wins to losses? No doubt. But do we (like Daniel or other believers) seek the prize of earthly recognition or eternal influence?
The best players and disciples understand their role; to hone their position or gifts and contribute to the edification of the team regardless of the final score. Whether you feel like you are the point guard or the water boy, your part is crucial and your witness is powerful! Just as the lions had no chance of defeating Daniel due to God’s providence and provisions, we can rest assured that God will use our story if we give Him the ball.
You may be feeling like a ball in your hands translates to a turnover in the making, but a life in God’s hands is the perfect starting lineup. Learn from Daniel. His devotion was courageously submitted to God without assurance of a certain personal outcome. We would be wise to do the same. In the game of life we need only to suit up, pray up, listen to the coach (God), ignore the crowd, and place the trophies at His feet. I’d say that’s a winning season to be a part of!
