Unveiling Truth in the Face of Unbelief
394 Views

If you go back to the beginning of Superman, you see this seemingly ordinary guy named Clark Kent. His true identity was that he held great superpowers and was actually Superman. Even though it was a secret to readers and viewers, it was obvious. I mean, how much different can a person look with glasses and a hat? And he was always gone when Superman showed up. Yet somehow, his true identity remained secret for a time.

Those closest to him knew the truth, but others couldn’t believe Clark Kent was Superman even though it was staring them in the face.

They didn’t believe in Superman himself but in his extraordinary power. In their mind, there was no way an ordinary guy like Clark could be that powerful. They knew him. He was nothing like Superman to them.

John 5:16-18

And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”

Jesus. He was a man from Nazareth. People knew Him. They had watched Him grow up as the son of Mary and Joseph, a carpenter.

And here He was, claiming to be the Son of God.

These men, the Pharisees, were the religious leaders. They were the experts on God and His laws. Or so they thought. They believed God existed and was the supreme authority, but it was His power that they truly sought after, not God.

Because staring them in the face was a man, Jesus, claiming to be the Son of God – the One the prophets had foretold, the One who would save them, the Messiah – and they couldn’t see it.

He was just a man.

Or so they thought.

Jesus revealed Himself as the Son of God, putting Himself equal with God. The Pharisees had two choices: believe what Jesus said as truth and worship Him, or deny Him and keep their power as the religious authority.

Ignoring the truth and refusing to see the evidence, they chose power over God Himself.

What we believe about Jesus is the most essential thing in life. The Word of God tells us who He is.

Scripture unveils the beautiful secret of who the Messiah is, Emmanuel, God with us. We have the privilege of reading the whole story and knowing what the prophets said in the Old Testament, as well as the prophesies Jesus fulfilled in the New Testament. He’s not just a man from Nazareth. He is God.

And He came to this earth for a purpose. He came to provide restoration between man and God, to pay the penalty for our sins, and to show us the way to the Father.

The proof is there, but will you see it? Will you believe in Jesus? Will you accept His offer of salvation for your sins and surrender your life to Him?
