If something is true, it’s either always true or not true at all.
This is exactly what Paul was trying to tell the people in the church of Corinth.
1 Corinthians 15:12-20
“But tell me this: Since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead? 13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. 15 And we apostles would all be lying about God—for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. 16 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins. 18 In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost! 19 And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.
20 But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.”
Greek culture was full of deep philosophical thinking. They believed that the soul was imprisoned in the body and released upon death. They did not believe in the resurrection of the physical body after death. Yet they claimed it happened with Christ.
This is where Paul must have said, “that just doesn’t add up.”
The resurrection of Christ and His body is the foundation of our Christian faith. His resurrection was prophesied, not just by prophets of old, but by Jesus Himself. This means our sins truly can be forgiven, and like Christ, we too will be resurrected.
If you were to die today, your body would remain in the ground but your spirit would go to Heaven. (2 Corinthians 5:8)
When the Lord calls His church home (referred to as the rapture), the dead in Christ shall rise. We will be reunited with our bodies. (1 Thessalonians 4:16) And then we will be changed. Like Christ, our bodies will be glorified. (1 Corinthians 15:52-53)
Truth is truth. There are no half-truths or personal truths—there is only one truth.
Just because we don’t always understand it all doesn’t mean it is any less true.
What truths are you standing on today? I stand with Paul when he said, “But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead.”
That’s the truth.
