The Perfect Package
9688 Views

As I reviewed the options, it really seemed like a clear choice, but I had to run it by the boys first. This was our first trip as a family and I wanted to make sure it was perfect for everyone.

Costa Rica, Hawaii, or Belize.

Immediately, one said Hawaii because they knew how exciting that sounded. But I shared that it was the most expensive of the three and the longest flight as well. Another said Costa Rica because they love monkeys and just knew we would see a gazillion of them. I shared the hotel options, pricing and activities. They were okay, but they didn’t include food or travel to and from the airport. Then we got to the last choice- Belize. None of us really knew much about it. But it was hitting everything we said we had wanted. Short travel time, beach and jungle, adventures were included, food was included, travel to and from the airport, and all accommodations had air conditioning. And best of all, it was the least expensive! This package encompassed it all. It was all gathered up into one thing and tied with a big red bow.

And it turned out to be the greatest adventure we’ve ever had!

“Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:36-40)

Still at their game of trying to trap Jesus, the Pharisees throw out another question, with great assurance Jesus would fail as He answered.

But as Jesus spoke, He quoted two commandments out of Deuteronomy and Leviticus. Why? Because if you followed these, you would fulfill all the other commandments. There were more than 600 other laws, but all were wrapped up in just these and tied with a pretty red bow.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if we followed just these two commandments?

Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.

No more lying.
No more cheating.
No more murder.
No more stealing.
No more affairs.
No more hurtful actions towards one another.
No more pornography.
No more homosexuality.
No more sex outside of marriage.
No more cursing.
No more drunkenness.
No more hateful speech towards one another.
No more greed.
No more underhanded deals.
No more…

So today, let’s focus on what we can do for God’s glory through these commandments. What can you do to love God above all else? What can you do to show love to your neighbor?

The time has come. People need to see Jesus for who He truly is. They need to see examples from Jesus’ followers. They need this now more than ever.
