The one.

I can’t remember the day or the time when I realized it, but I knew without a doubt, Shaun was “the one” for me.

Maybe it was the way he treated me with respect and kindness. Or perhaps it was his beautiful smile and the way he laughed, even at my silly jokes. It could have been how hard I would see him work doing what he loved and giving everything he attempted his all. I loved getting to know more about him and the things he loved – his son, Jesus, dogs, hunting, fishing, jokes, traveling… the list goes on and on. And of course, looks don’t hurt… One thing was for sure, there is only one Shaun Merrell and he is “the one”.

When we married, I made a commitment to honor and cherish him as the one I love, no one else. My days would be filled with being his help mate, loving only him.

Only one.

As the Israelites prepare to take the city of Canaan, their promised land, Moses reminds them of what God has commanded of them as His people.

“Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest: But in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee.” (Deuteronomy 12:13-14)

Moses points out that there is to be only one altar of sacrifice for the Israelites. Throughout the chapter, there’s a theme that jumps out from the pages – only one.

There was only one place of sacrifice. There was only one way to do it. There was only one God to serve.

Only one.

Even today, there is only one way and one God.

Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh to the Father but by me.” (John 14:6)

“Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.” (Isaiah 44:6)

Whatever you are trusting in, whether it’s your wealth, your health or yourself, none of it will lead to Heaven. There is only one, and His name is Jesus. By surrendering your will, your way, your desires, your wants, your demands, for His way and trusting that Jesus is the Son of God, the only way, then you can have eternal life in Heaven.

Will you trust in Him?

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” (1 John 5:20)

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17: 3)

Jesus is The One!
