The Light of the World
9457 Views

The flick of a switch and light illuminated the room.

People were surely amazed.

They had never seen anything like it.

Of course, I’m sure they were afraid to touch it for fear of getting burned. Light only came from fire before so naturally, they would assume the same about this.

But this was revolutionary.

This was something that would light up the world.

This would change everything.

This was electricity!

Can you imagine being there when this moment occurred? The first time electricity lit up a light bulb for a crowd to see. I can just see them getting up the nerve to finally touch the bulb, only to realize it wasn’t a flame. How exciting this would have been to see!

“And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.”

Luke 7:11-17

The people were in awe. They were amazed at what they had just seen and glorified God for it! They knew of old prophets like Elijah and Elisha that had raised people from the dead. So naturally, they just assumed Jesus was a prophet. That’s all they knew.

But He was revolutionary.

He was someone that would light up the world.

He would change everything.

Because Jesus was more than a prophet, He was God in the flesh.

“I and my Father are one.”

John 10:30

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

Matthew 1:23

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”

1 John 5:20

Jesus was so much more than the people could imagine. He had come to the earth to bring them out of the darkness and into His marvelous light!

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

John 8:12

And He offers us the same today. Who do you say that Jesus is? To you, is He just a good person, a prophet who was sent by God, or God Himself? We must know the answer, our future depends on it.

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

John 14:1-6
