The cornerstone.

The first stone to be laid in the building process.

The beginning.

The one that bears the load.

The foundation.

The rock on which all others are built.

Perfect alignment.

Luke 20:17-19

Jesus looked directly at them and asked, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: “ ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”
19 The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.”

What made the Pharisees and the chief priests want to kill Jesus? Although Jesus’ comments were made in parables, they knew it was about them. He quoted Psalm 118:22, a scripture the Pharisees knew well. They knew what a cornerstone was. Jesus was declaring their rejection of the Messiah had been prophesied in scripture.

They wouldn’t be broken by Jesus. Their pride was too strong. Instead, they would be crushed and destroyed because of their unbelief.

To come to Christ, we must be broken. There has to come a point when we recognize our desperate need for our Savior. No longer do we believe we can do it on our own. We see the truth, that wholeness, redemption, only comes through Jesus Christ.

The Pharisees and chief priests wouldn’t do this. Will you?

When you come to the Cornerstone, will you recognize Him for His purpose?

The first stone to be laid in the building process.

The beginning.

The one that bears the load.

The foundation.

The rock on which all others are built.

Perfect alignment.

Or will you deny Him and be crushed?

If you want to build a life worth living, Jesus must be the beginning. He must be the cornerstone.
