The Burden You Were Never Meant to Carry
83 Views

I was walking for what seemed like forever. Exhaustion overtook me, and I wondered how I could take even one more step. The load I was carrying was too much. Why did I ever think I was strong enough for this? My arms, my legs, my back—all ached and were ready to cave under the weight of it all. Even my mind struggled to keep up.

But it was my heart that was truly the heaviest.

And then, all of a sudden, I saw a man. He was kind and gentle, and he offered to carry my load. My eyes lit up at the thought of no longer bearing that weight.

“Yes!” I cried. “Please help me!”

And with that, he placed the entire load upon himself. The freedom I felt was unimaginable, but because it was new, I felt unsure.

I kept saying, “Are you sure I don’t need to help? Is that too heavy? Here—let me take just one thing. I can help. I feel bad! Shouldn’t I be doing something?”

But he reassured me that he was fully capable of carrying it all.

And then, as minds often do, mine began to worry.

Did he drop something? I doubted his strength. Maybe he couldn’t handle all of this, and something fell behind us. The more I thought about it, the more convinced I became that I needed to go back and check.

As I walked, person after person said, “Here—you need this,” handing me something else to carry. Pretty soon, I found myself walking the same road as before, but with an even heavier load.

How did this happen? My heart cried out within me. I couldn’t believe I was here again.

And then I saw him—that sweet, gentle, gracious man who had offered to carry my load.

“Come with me.”

Galatians 5:1 says,
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” (NKJV)

“So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” (NLT)

We are free from the law.

That is what Paul continued to preach to the people of Galatia. We have freedom in Christ. The law is a burden—too heavy for us to bear—and He freed us from it. Now, we are to walk in His grace.

But the people were confused. Wasn’t there still something they should do? Faith—yes, they could have faith in Jesus. But the Judaizers insisted that faith alone was not enough. They taught that salvation required faith plus obedience to the Jewish law.

Christ fulfilled the law.

They were no longer under it. They were free from that bondage. Now, they could walk in newness of life—free.

And free to walk with Christ daily, loving Him, serving Him, and extending that same grace to others.

What a powerful reminder for us today.

Live like you have been freed from bondage. Do not get tangled up in the belief that you can earn the Lord’s approval through constant striving and doing.

Just follow Him.

Oh, how incredible and beautiful the grace of God truly is.

Let me help you see what it looks like to have a real relationship with Jesus. He is calling you to follow Him—and I would love to show you how.
