If you are a follower of Christ, you are not merely a lamb in need of a shepherd, a soul who constantly needs God’s help and provision.
You are more.
You are a warrior who, in your remaining days, finds yourself in the most significant battle in heaven and earth. You follow a King who has won the ultimate war but has left us here to stave off the enemy’s attacks on God’s kingdom on earth and to advance the kingdom by finding those who are to join His Great Company of Saints. To see them introduced to their Savior by your strong, simple witness and swept into His kingdom which is victorious and has no end.
OUR ENEMY
In this battle there is CONSTANT opposition. Often, we don’t realize it. There are the open, visible, unchecked tactics of the enemy as he seeks to kill, and steal, and destroy, by killing children, opposing the Bride of Christ, filling this world with godless truth and gods who have nothing to give and no power to give it.
SUBTLE ATTACKS
But there are also millions of enemies who are constantly distracting us from the presence of God and seeking to make God’s followers diverted and ineffective. These enemies seem benign, some even befriending us as supposed followers of Christ too. But watch careful: when asked to make the hard choices of following Christ, you might see them drifting to the rear, seeking to dissuade as many believers as they can. Satan knows he cannot ultimately win this war, but he wants to prolong it as long as possible and have his day. He will use every means necessary.
OUR KING
But our almighty King sits on is throne and rules over the affairs of men. All those who draw near to Him understand this and are assured by His unwavering rule upon the throne, His calm leadership of His troops, and His steady battle plan as it proceeds, unwavering, through time.
King David saw this and wrote Psalms and prayers filled with this clarity and faith.
The Lord is King forever and ever;
Nations have perished from His land.
O Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear
To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed,
So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror. (Psalm 10:16-18
The King is on His throne! He will overcome enemies and nations and “hear the desire of the humble, strengthening their hearts and vindicating His children and His name. There will soon come a day when “man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror” and every tongue confess and knee bow before our King.
Don’t be disturbed today. You are surrounded by a host of God’s army–both angelic and fellow earthly believers. Millions who have gone before, who are here with you now, and will come behind you.
Though it may appear God’s enemies are advancing it is merely temporary. If you cry out to God and move at His command, He will accomplish His purposes, though it might be through your suffering work (what warrior has not suffered to advance?)
He will give you all you need and, in the end, will win the day. Part of that victory will be the men and women and boys and girls who see your peaceful, but strong allegiance to your great Captain. They will notice that your tactics, although strong, are full of grace and truth, and “mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).”
Look up, faithful warrior. Your redemption is drawing near.
