The Armor You Can’t Afford to Leave Home Without
15 Views

He gets up every morning at 4:30 a.m. He has a pretty strict routine as he gets ready for the day. There are several essential items he knows he must have before heading out the door for the day:

Keys – check
Contacts – check
Boots – check

But one of the most important things for him to put on before he heads out—his bulletproof vest.

Like a knight preparing for battle, he pulls the armor over his head and secures it in place. The enemy’s attacks will certainly come, and they aim to destroy. His target: the vital organs. The officer must be prepared and protected.

Ephesians 6:14
“Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.”

Body armor. In other versions, it’s called the breastplate. This is a a crucial part of the armor because it protects the body’s vital organs.

So, what is the breastplate of righteousness?

Let’s first look at what righteousness is. Righteousness means being morally just and upright before our holy God, the One who has all divine authority. Because of our sin, we cannot stand before God. But when Christ went to the cross and gave His life for us, our sin was paid for. When we accept Christ’s offer of salvation, we receive His righteousness. We are then able to stand before God—clean, pure, and forgiven.

It was not obtained by anything we can do but by what Christ did for us. By faith we receive it (Philippians 3:9). It was perfectly paid for by Jesus Christ. It cannot be taken away. It becomes our breastplate of protection, guarding our hearts against the enemy’s attacks.

And what holds it in place? The belt of truth—the gospel of Christ.

By believing in the truth of Christ, we are protected. We are saved.

Do you believe?

This is a question Jesus asked, and I ask you today. Do you believe the gospel of Jesus Christ? Do you know He is the Son of God and that He gave His life to forgive the sins of the world? Do you believe He has the power to save you?

Then ask Him.

There is only One who can save.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:12

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

Romans 10:9–10

Pray to the Lord, confess your sin, and ask Him to save you.

And then learn what it means to be His follower.

I’d love to help you. Go to follow.lifeword.org and learn more about having a relationship with Jesus.

This will be the most important thing you put on every day—your faith in Christ.
