Standing in Awe

I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. Boy, I sure was glad I had brought some tissue with me. I’ve never sobbed in a meeting, but this, this moment… I couldn’t hold it back.

How did I get here? That’s the question I kept asking myself. I was sitting in a beautiful executive conference room, surrounded by wall-to-wall glass windows and chairs filled with exceptional men and women, and then there was me.

Another report was given, and more tears came. I couldn’t tell if I was overwhelmed by the stories he shared or the fact that I had the privilege of hearing them.

I looked around the room at the other board members – the owner of a construction company, a man who worked for NASA, an engineer, an administrator at a local college, a pastor, a savvy businessman… the amount of knowledge, credentials, and prestige in the room was literally jaw-dropping.

What on earth was I doing here?

It was my first board meeting for Lifeword. Somehow, I had been invited to be a part of this incredible team that would hear reports from the directors at Lifeword Ministries and help make decisions.

I was taken aback when Donny Parrish asked me to join this board. Me? What do I have to offer? And now, sitting in this room, that feeling had grown exponentially.

I was in a place of undeserved privilege.

And all I could think was, “God. YOU are amazing.” I was in awe of what He was doing.

I was only there by the grace of God.

Romans 5:1-2

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.”

“Into this grace in which we now stand.”

I can’t get over that wording Paul used. Because of our faith in Jesus, because we trust in Him for the debt He paid for us, and because we believe in Him to save us, we find ourselves in a place of “underserved privilege.”

We, believers in Christ, now have access to God.

Does that not just blow your mind?

Think about that for a moment. Let it sink in. I don’t know if you’ve ever had a star-struck moment, but THIS is it!

THE Creator of the Universe

The One who breathed and life began.

The King above all powers, authority, and thrones…

THE Holy GOD has invited us to stand beside Him.

I don’t know how to express exactly how that makes me feel other than complete and utter humility and awe.

What goes through your mind when you read this? When you realize that you have been given a place of undeserved privilege because you have believed in Jesus?

May we never lose that sense of awe and amazement that we can stand in the presence of the Almighty God forgiven, freed, and cherished.

Do you want to know Him? Do you want to have that relationship with God? Let me show you.
