Somebody Need to Know About Him

Somebody needs to know about him.

The past few Friday nights, I’ve had the opportunity to watch high school football via livestream. My sister in-law’s nephew plays for Southside and while we all might be a little biased, I keep thinking, somebody needs to know about this kid.

It’s easy to spot him on the field. Those green shoes tear up the turf as he speeds to the end zone breaking tackles left and right. Gabe Witt, #22, RB is a force to be reckoned with on the field. Max Preps ranking shows “Gabe is ranked in the top 6 in Arkansas for 2 stats, top 1 in Division 5A for 2 stats, and top 1 in 5A East for 4 stats.” Just this season, he’s had 12 touchdowns. The team is 5-0, 3rd in 5A East led by Coach Kenny Simpson. They are definitely a team to watch.

When the ball is snapped, the quarterback hands it off to Witt, and we hold our breath. Waiting, watching, eyes glued to the field. He breaks the first tackle, spins off a second and heads to the goal line. Cheers erupt, fans screaming from the stands as he crosses the end zone for the touchdown.

The crowd

goes

wild!

I’ll say it again, somebody needs to know about him.

Now, if we can have that kind of a reaction to football…

Luke 24:50-53

“And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.”

The disciples are all gathered and eating with Jesus, questioning what’s happening before their eyes. Jesus reminds them of what He told them before of His death, resurrection, and their purpose to be His witnesses. With a final blessing, He ascends into heaven.

These people have witnessed the most miraculous things imaginable in their time with Jesus. They witnessed Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God, be risen from the dead and lifted up to heaven! So, what is their response?

They erupted into praise and worship! They were on their feet, cheering for the Lord, declaring victory over death! But this was too good to keep to themselves.

Somebody needs to know about Him.

They became His witnesses, taking this good news of Jesus, the gospel, to their people, their community, the surrounding areas and now, it’s reaching you today wherever you are reading this.

If you’ve witnessed Jesus’ miracles in your own life, YOU have a story to tell. Somebody needs to know about Him! Will you share it? Will you talk of the incredible joy He brings, the work He’s done to change you, the peace even in the midst of struggles? Will you share about the love and forgiveness He offers to anyone that will receive Him? Will you declare His goodness and His name to your people, your community, the surrounding areas, to the ends of the earth?

Somebody needs to know about Him.
