A text came through.

“What in the world?!”

And another and another. All of them saying the same thing. How on earth were we ever going to understand or do this?

Our team had gotten new reporting software and the creators were doing a zoom training with us. It was fast and furious. Our minds were blown and it felt so overwhelming. All the while, my team had a group message going behind the scenes that was becoming a mile long.

It was too much to remember, too much to take in all at once.

“I will never be able to do this!” came another text.

The creators wrapped up their session and told us that they were always available for questions. But we knew we needed something more. Something that walked us through it, slowly, showing us how it had to be entered.

Finally, one of our managers stepped in and asked if they could post videos and help sheets that would guide us when we had questions.

We still didn’t understand it. As the months went by though, as we worked to enter the data, we used those sheets to guide us. I’d have two screens pulled up at once following each step to make sure I was doing it correctly. We talked with one another, helping each other, and we were able to use this new system. We still had questions and issues would arise, sometimes making us feel defeated again, but having a guide made it possible.

This is what Jesus offered to the disciples.

John 14:15-16
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Role of the Spirit
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;”

That first part of the first verse – “if you love me, keep my commandments”. I don’t know about you, but that feels overwhelming. How can we possibly keep God’s commandments? How can we understand them and do the work He’s asked us to do?

And…

Do you see that next word?

And…

While He was with them, they could ask questions, gain wisdom, continue learning. But if He left them, what would they do? How could they do what He was asking? Jesus was not leaving them alone. He and the Father provided for them a guide, One who would always be with them.

The Holy Spirit.

Vs. 26
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

If what God is asking to do feels overwhelming and impossible, remember, He gave us the One who makes it possible.

He provided all that we need in order to fulfill the mission He has given us. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can understand His Word. As we read and study, we gain not just knowledge but wisdom in how to use it, how to apply it to our lives. When we are troubled, He brings hope to our hearts and scriptures back to our minds. We are not alone.

Aren’t you thankful?

What an amazing gift we have! Every day, we have the opportunity to commune with the Father, seek His guidance and will for our lives and share our deepest concerns, doubts and fears all because He walks with us day and night. The Holy Spirit is always with us. How amazing is that?!
