No One Will Know

Powderkeg. If you’ve ever been to Silver Dollar City and you’ve ridden this ride, you know the anticipation is intense!

Strapped in, your head against the head rest, the car begins to move to the track. Your heart starts beating faster and faster.

“Do you smell smoke?”

The voice echoes as the car advances to the shoot. This is where it really gets my husband. He knows what’s coming, but the anticipation is killing him. He sees the lights go from red to yellow and, finally, to green, but there’s always a delay once it hits green. Will it be instantaneous? Will it take 2 seconds? What about longer? When will we go?

We’ve seen the signs, but when it happens it’s always a surprise. 0-53 mph in 2.8 seconds! It’s my favorite!

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” (Matthew 24:36)

There are many people who study prophecy and there are signs Jesus has told us would signal His return. But even though we see the signs, when He appears, we will still be surprised. You can think you have it all figured out, but Jesus says, no one will know.

Why? Why not give us more of a clear understanding?

If I know a paper is due in 3 weeks, I might procrastinate until then to get it done. I’ll do all these other things that I want to do and then get to work. Or maybe I think the teacher might change her mind and give us all a break and not require the paper. But ultimately, I would just be wasting a lot of precious time in between. (Matthew 24:37-41)

I’ve heard many say that they will wait to get saved until closer to time. What time? How will you know? The Bible tells us to not put off until tomorrow what needs to be done today! Today is the day of salvation! Only by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ can one be saved and be ready for the return of the Lord. (Matthew 24:42-44)

Our job is to share the gospel and make disciples for God’s glory, but for how long? Until we pass away or He returns, whichever comes first. Are you doing your job? We’ve got to quit making excuses and get to work! (Matthew 24:45-47)

Do you know someone who needs to be saved? Do you want them to spend eternity in Hell? (Matthew 24:51) Then share the good news of what Christ has done for you with them!
