Wings like velvet, the colors of the sky as they fade with time. Like waters from the ocean’s depths, sunlight piercing through to show the truest forms of blue.

There’s something almost magical about butterflies, don’t you think?

Just little caterpillars, worming around the earth, limited in movement, but then a time comes for change. And when it emerges, it’s breathtaking. Magnificent wings of color flutter open and closed, and this new creature experiences true freedom for the first time. Their beautiful transformation is on display for the world to see.

John 4:38-42

“And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
41 And many more believed because of his own word;
42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.”

The woman.

You mean, the Samaritan woman? The one who had to go to the well during the hottest part of the day because she was so despised? The woman that had such a shameful reputation?

People believed in Jesus because of her?

YES!

Here’s what gets me.

He chose her.

He chose her out of all the people, even those who believed they were as good as they could be.

Isn’t that just like God to do? To use the weak to show how mighty He is. To use the broken to reveal His power to restore. To use a woman in a man’s world.

He chose her to be the first to reveal His purpose on earth.

With shame and regret cast off, she RAN to tell everyone. The change in her after her encounter with Christ was so extreme, so visible, that people couldn’t doubt it. They had to see!

And many believed.

Let me assure you, God can use ANYONE. Even those with a shameful past. The weak, the small, the discarded, the broken, the terrible…

How amazing is He?!

Are you searching for freedom? To be changed from the old life to a new one?

Jesus is the way.

And if you have been changed, start living like it. Read His Word and follow it. Be an example like this woman so others will see Jesus in you! Love them enough to share how He can save anyone, no matter what.

2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
