What song do you find yourself singing? Do you ever have one that gets stuck in your head? Maybe it’s a part of a song that just repeats over and over. My husband is really good at remembering that part of the song. He might not know any other words, but he knows the “catchy” part.
We had a wonderful night with Christian artist Ginny Owens. She’s wonderful and you should definitely look her up. She taught us that the part of the song that is so catchy, that really gets you is what’s called the “hook”. So, what keeps playing on repeat in your mind?
As I was reading this morning in our study in Matthew, the disciples are gathered with Jesus for the last supper. They have just eaten the bread Jesus gave them and the grape juice, and then it says they sang.
“And when they had sung a hymn they went out into the Mount of Olives.” (Matthew 26:30)
What hymn do you suppose they sang? It’s probably not found in the Heavenly Highway book. But it is in the Bible. My commentary says they might have sang Psalm 115-118, because this was the traditional hymns of the Passover, which they were observing.
I want to pull out just a few verses from Psalms 116, 117 and 118.
“I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.” (Psalm 116:1-2)
“O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.” (Psalm 117:1-2)
“Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” (Psalm 118:28-29)
This is the song on my heart this morning. Praise the Lord! He is worthy of all honor and glory and praise! Where were you? What has He done in you? Where are you now? Isn’t that worthy of praise? If you don’t like who or where you are, what needs to change, you or God? Reach out to Him! He alone can bring you out of the darkness into His marvelous light!
Sing the wondrous love of Jesus! Forever God is Faithful! Forever God is strong! Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! Bless the Lord oh my soul! Worship His Holy name! For you are God alone, from before time began, you were on your throne! You are God alone! As the deer pants for the water so my soul longeth after you! You alone are my heart’s desire and I long to worship you! All hail King Jesus, all hail Emmanuel! Prince of Peace, Lord of Lords, bright morning star! How great Thou Art!
Sing.
Let your heart sing to the Lord this morning in worship and praise! Let His joy flow through you!
Sing!
