Leaving a Legacy that Points to Christ
167 Views

“What kind of legacy am I leaving behind?”

I think many of us start asking that question as we age. We look back over the years at what we’ve accomplished and wonder, “What will I be remembered by?”

What would they say about you? Not what you plan to do, but for who you are and what you’ve done up until now. Is it worth remembering?

There’s only one thing I want people to remember me by.

Acts 17:1-9

1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.

4 And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.

5 ¶ But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

7 “Jason has harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king—Jesus.”

8 And they troubled the crowd and the rulers of the city when they heard these things.

9 So when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.”

These men have turned the world upside down.

What a statement.

What a legacy.

These men, the apostles of Jesus, knew the truth. And they couldn’t keep quiet about it. They had been given a mission, a great commission, to go and make disciples. What they knew and shared was contrary to what was taught and practiced. It went against tradition. It provoked men and women to think and seek a personal relationship with God through Jesus, which was simply unheard of.

The gospel changed everything. And these men wouldn’t let anything stop them from sharing the story of Jesus.

That’s what I want people to remember me for, “she told me about Jesus.”

I hope that whatever legacy I leave points people to the awesomeness of Christ, the work He did, the love and forgiveness He offers, and what life resembles for those who abide in Him.

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20

So, today, this is me telling you about Jesus. I would love to show you who He is, how He transforms us, and how we can join Him on His mission. Let me show you what it looks like to follow Jesus.
