Jesus is Your Advocate

It was rare for Jack McCoy to lose a case. The Manhattan District Attorney on Law & Order was known for being tough, cut-throat, and thorough in preparing and prosecuting criminals in the courtroom.

Even knowing some of those people were guilty, I cringed watching him bring his case against them.

Why? Because I’ve imagined myself in that seat before, with Jack McCoy standing there with those black eyes staring a hole into my soul and with his brow furrowed, hurling accusations at me.

All of which were true.

Guilt was evident. There was no denying it. The evidence was stacked against me. This was definitely a case the prosecuting attorney would not lose.

Until my defense attorney stepped in.

Dismiss the charges.

Stunned. The entire courtroom, the prosecutors, and especially me, the one on trial.

The Judge declares, “She’s free to go. These charges are dismissed.”

But how?

Romans 8:31-34
“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.”

Jesus paid the debt we owe for sin. When we accept His offer, we are justified. It’s “just as if I had” never sinned.

And we are free. No charge can stand against us. No matter how good they are at accusing us. No matter what kind of case they have built against us. Not even Jack McCoy can win this case.

Because Jesus is our advocate.

He made a way.

He is the way.

And nothing formed against us will prosper.
