Jehovah-Jireh, Our Lord Provides
490 Views

Today, I want to show you something pretty interesting and downright incredible. There are moments where you just stop and say, “Man, that is so awesome!” Today, is one of those days.

“And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head” (Mark 15:17)

The Roman soldiers have led Jesus away from Pilate. He’s been sentenced to death by crucifixion. The end is near.

But along the way, the soldiers decide to stop in the hall and mock Jesus. They clothe him in a robe of purple, the color of royalty, and fashion for Him a crown made of vines with thorns and place on His head.

“And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.” (Genesis 22:13)

Back in Genesis, we learned about Abraham. In his old age he had a son named Isaac. God commanded him to take Isaac up the mountain and sacrifice him. Abraham, trusting with his whole heart in the Lord, took his only son and laid him on the altar to sacrifice. Just before he plunged the knife into the boy, he saw a ram in the thicket. God had provided a replacement. Abraham went and pulled the animal from the brush and brought it to the altar instead.

The sacrificial lamb in the thorns.

And here we are, years later, and yet again, God has provided a sacrificial lamb, Jesus, and He bore the thorns upon His head.

Nothing is by chance. This isn’t just a mere coincidence. God provided. Just as He did on that day with Isaac and Abraham called God Jehovah-Jireh, our Lord provides. He did the same that day in the hall of the court. The very men that were mocking Jesus had no idea it was all part of a bigger plan. God was providing that sacrificial lamb yet again. Instead of it being us to pay the debt, Jesus would go to the cross. He would take our place on the altar. His blood would be poured out.

Jehovah-Jireh!
