It’s Really Happening

The sun was setting, coffee in hand, and we were gazing across the hillside. We had just broken ground on the new house that would be built. We sat in fold up chairs behind our camper and dreamed and chatted about what was to come.

“Soon there will be a house there. And we will sit on the back porch every evening and think, ‘can you remember we used to sit over there behind the camper and dream of this day?’”

The first time we were able to do that very thing was incredible. It seemed like a long time coming but when it was finally here, we were so thankful and excited to share it together.

“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” (Mark 1:1-3)

John Mark begins his book with the fulfillment of prophecy. This event, the coming of the Messiah and the proclamation ministry of John the Baptist, was foretold by Isaiah.

“The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.” (Isaiah 40: 3)

The people had talked about it for years. It would happen, the Messiah would come. And there would be a man in the wilderness who would be the one to proclaim it. And it was really happening! They could look back at the scriptures and realize that it was really happening!

Jesus fulfilled more than 300 prophecies! Do you know how incredible that is?! It’s undeniable that He is the Son of God, the long-awaited Messiah, the Savior of the World!

And today, we await His coming again. We read scripture and think, “wow, this is really happening, right now!”

Friends, are you ready?

As we await Jesus’ return, some are excited and some are anxious. You can know today, without a shadow of a doubt, that you will spend eternity in heaven.

– Do you recognize you are a sinner?

– Do you understand that there must be a payment for your sins?

– Do you understand that there is nothing you can do to pay that price? No amount of good deeds can outweigh the bad.

– Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God?

– Do you believe He gave His life for you on the cross to pay the debt of your sin?

– Do you accept His free gift of salvation and trust Him to be Lord over your life?

Will you tell Him that today? Will you pray to Him and confess your sins and ask Him to save you? There’s no special prayer, you just say what’s on your heart.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in church, the day you were baptized, or even that you teach Sunday School. If you’ve never trusted in Jesus alone, you’ll not be in Heaven. No matter what you’ve done in your life, God is bigger than that. He can forgive anything and is ready and willing!

Just as John the Baptist proclaimed, Jesus is coming soon!
